Ella Mae (Thompson) Young

Ella Mae (Thompson) Young, known as Ella or Gran-Gran, age 96, was born on December 8, 1925 and passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022 after a short illness. Ella grew up in Burlington New Jersey, the only girl out of a family of eight brothers.

Ella lived most of her life in Burlington City, NJ, where she raised her family and was well known and loved by others. In March 1988, she moved to Tinton Falls, NJ where she lived in a senior citizens complex for many years. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, going on outings, shopping trips, and playing games of bingo. Though she was only 4 ft tall, she was a little firecracker with a witty outgoing personality.

In 2011, she moved with family to Delaware, where she spent the remainder of her days living at Gilpin Hall, which she considered her home. There, she enjoyed dining, watching tv, and other various outings and activities. She loved doing arts and crafts and of course playing bingo. Every Sunday you could find her dressed in black and white attending one of the many church services. Her life was full of friends and visits from her family. She was greatly admired by everyone she came in contact with.

Ella was predeceased by her eight brothers, her husband, Irvin Young, Sr., son, Irvin Young, Jr and great-grandson, Howard “Howie” Young.  She is survived by her son, Howard Young and his wife, Carolee (DE); Niece, Pearl Thompson (NJ); Grandchildren, Howard “Gary “Young (Carmen)of NJ, Zachary Young (Monifa) of NJ, Lanora Young (FL), bonus grandchildren, Robin Parks (DE), Kevin Lee (AZ), Brian Lee (DE), Vicki Jackson (DE); Great  grandchildren,  Samona Young (NC), Julisa Young (DE), Michael-Lakota Pope and Cheyenne Pope (FL), bonus great-grandchildren, Lemar Whittaker (NJ), Lauren Whittaker (DE) and Yves Jackson (DE); 12 Great-great grandchildren,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

All services will be held privately.
