Mrs. Ellen F. Creswell, known fondly as “Billie,” age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
Born in Clifty, TN, on January 29, 1923, Billie was the daughter of the late Samuel Moore and Kate Cooley. She made her career as a billing clerk with the University of Delaware.
A talented homemaker and gracious hostess throughout her life, Billie delighted in entertaining guests in her home. She was a wonderful cook, as well, and enjoyed preparing special meals to share with her family and her many friends. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, and, in earlier years, roller skating. A devout Christian, she was an active member of Elkton United Methodist Church.
Billie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who devoted her life to caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Howard G. “Cres” Creswell, and by sisters, Hassie “Pat” McCormick and Betty McCollum. She is survived by her son, Howard G. “Jerry” Creswell, Jr. (Stephanie) of Newark, DE; daughter, Jane Creswell of Newark, DE; brothers, J.C. Moore of Cleveland, OH, and Donald Moore of Martinsburg, WV; sister, Jessie Deridge of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Cheryl (Justin), Brian (Bess), and Bradley (Brandice); great grandchildren, Deja, Gerald, Cali, and Eliot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
