Emlen Ralph Russel “Bud” Lawrence

Emlen Ralph Russel “Bud” Lawrence, age 94, of Port Penn, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Born in Lancaster, PA, on February 6, 1927, he was a son of the late William and Sarah (Hall) Lawrence. Bud proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He made his career as a machine operator for Electric, Hose & Rubber for 29 1/2 years, before retiring in 1976. Bud then worked for Gates Engineering and Rosenberg Cold Storage in their maintenance sectors. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, VFW Post #838 in Port Penn, and the American Legion. In his spare time, Bud enjoyed playing checkers, watching professional wrestling and baseball.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Jane (Fry) Lawrence and 5 siblings. He is survived by son, Dennis J. Lawrence (Cathy Duncan-Lawrence); grandchildren, Christine Kalix and Helena Faulkner (Ron); and great grandchildren, Gabriel Kalix, Alyssa Kalix, and Gavin Faulkner.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE. Face masks will be required for all in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud’s memory to Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 East Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720.

    We remember and cherish the time that we were neighbors. Mr. Lawrence was a soft spoken and gentle man. He loved his cars and took good care of them, and he had the cleanest garage “ever.”
