Erma E. Doherty

Mrs. Erma E. Doherty, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012.
Born in Hegins, PA, on August 23, 1928, Mrs. Doherty was the daughter of the late Arsie Wayne Kimmel and Emma Mabel Saltzer Kimmel. She graduated from Hegins Township High School in 1946 and from Central Pennsylvania Business College in Harrisburg in 1948. She worked at the Credit Bureau of Greater Harrisburg before wedding her beloved husband, John E. Doherty, on May 12, 1951 and starting their family. She was a dedicated homemaker and an avid gardener. They moved to Wilmington in 1952; then, in 1956, they moved into their family home in New Castle, where she resided until her passing.
Mrs. Doherty had been a loyal and dedicated minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses since July 5, 1953. She will be lovingly remembered by her family as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
John, her husband of 59 years, passed away in 2010. She is survived by her children, Sandra J. LeCates of Georgetown, Robert E. Doherty of Wilmington, Michael J. Doherty of New Castle, and Timothy J. Doherty of Newark; and grandchildren, Karen, Paul, Greg, Ryan, Shannon, Owen, Emma, Brianna, Joshua, and Alyssa.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, December 15th, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 149 Landers Spur, New Castle, DE 19720. Burial will be held privately.
