Eugene F. “Gene” Tharp

          Eugene F. “Gene” Tharp, age 76, of Dover, DE, passed away at Bayhealth/Kent General on Monday, September 9, 2019.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on May 1, 1943, he was a son of the late Harry J. Tharp and Helen C. (McClain) Moore.  Gene worked as a talented drywall hanger and finisher, retiring after many years.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice M. (Spence) Tharp; daughter, Francine McKinney; step-son, William R. Spence, Sr.; four brothers; four sisters; and grandchildren, Codi L. Spence and Seth S. Spence.  Gene is survived by his children, Eugene M. “Mike” Tharp (Carla) and Jeana M. Tharp; brothers, John Tharp, Charles Tharp and Jerry Tharp; sisters, Mary L. Hutchins and Sarah Emerson; grandchildren, Angel M. Elswick, William R. Spence, Jr., Ashley C. Tharp, Joshua W.M. Tharp, Cheyenne V.S. Tharp and Krystal L. Moore; and four great grandchildren.

          The family would like to express a special thank you to his nurse, Janie and the entire staff on the 3rd floor ICU at Bayhealth/Kent General for all of their care and support they gave Gene.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10 am.  Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Rest in Peace to my Uncle Gene I will miss you so much my card partner what am I going to do without you? All of our talks over coffee on Saturdays I’m going to miss you more than you know.

  • Uncle gene you will be dearly missed . You always popped in to see what was new or just to see how we were doing and to always have coffee and conversation and especially on Friday and Saturday night for those card games that always start at 6 o’clock and ended whenever. Until we meet again Rest easy and we love you .
