Evelyn Markley

Mrs. Evelyn Louise Markley, age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Born in Coraopolis, PA, on December 20, 1935, Mrs. Markley was the daughter of the late Robert Geisler and Mabel Phillips Geisler. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and taught for many years in the Christina School District before retiring from May B. Leasure Elementary School in 1990.
A talented homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Markley greatly enjoyed planting a beautiful garden around her home each year. She was an avid reader and also relished the challenge of solving difficult jigsaw puzzles. Cherished times included caring for her pet cats and indulging (occasionally) in her favorite treat, chocolate.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton Kennard Markley, and by a sister, Laurene McGrath. She is survived by her sons, John Markley and his wife, Robyn, and Brett Markley; siblings, Robert Geisler and Martha Gagnan; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Madison, Megan, and James; and “granddog” Buddy.
The family extends special thanks to the friends and staff at the Atrium at Churchman Village and at Millcroft for their many kindnesses to Mrs. Markley during her residence and to Pauline Nevins for her unwavering dedication in assisting our mom.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am.
