Florence “Flo” Harris
May 27, 1941 - September 21, 2018
Florence May “Flo/Flossy” Harris, age 77 of Smyrna, DE and formerly of Browns Mills, NJ, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Colney Heath, England, on May 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Lucy Betty (Kiff) Samways. Flo worked at the Postal Service Center on McGuire Air Force Base in NJ as a supervisor, and retired in 2012 after several dedicated years.
In her youth, Flo loved music, fashion and dancing, especially doo-wop from the 50’s and 60’s. She was very proud of her British heritage, particularly her love of English food, customs and class. An avid sports fan, she cheered for English soccer club Arsenal, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies. She could often be seen enjoying a good tennis match and loved attending Nascar races. Flo also enjoyed family trips to Disney World, going to the beach with her grandchildren and shopping. Her beautiful smile, sassy attitude and contagious laugh will always be remembered.
In addition to her parents, Flo was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Harris; son, John Paul Dunnuck; and sisters, Janet Williams and Barbara Ann Schofield. She is survived by her daughter, Tanisha Waugh (Byron II) of Smyrna; sisters, Mavis Fitzsimmons (Kevin) and Pauline Wood (David); and her beloved grandsons, Brycen and Gabriel Waugh.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 noon on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Flo’s name to the Brycen and Gabriel Education Fund, care of Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.
