Florence Jane “Sally” Marcin, age 93, of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Born in Chester, PA, on January 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Kocinska. Sally graduated from Chester High School. Following graduation, she met her lifelong partner, Joe Marcin. In Sally’s earlier years, she earned her living as a bank teller for several years before working for DuPont. When her first son, Joey, was born, followed by Mark and David, she found great purpose and pride as a homemaker. Sally enjoyed working side by side with her husband as a longtime owner of the Red Lion Inn, located in Bear. She found great pleasure in doing yard work, crossword puzzles, and flower gardening. Sally and Joe loved bowling and cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies. She was lovingly called “Nanny” by her grandchildren, who enjoyed having sleepovers with her. Sally will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who adored spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joseph Frederick Marcin; son, Joseph Marcin; and brother, Chester Kocinska. She is survived by her sons, Mark Marcin (Lisa) and David Marcin (Sharon); 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE. Face masks are required for all in attendance. Interment will be held privately in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street #250, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

  • So sorry to hear of Sally’s passing. In all of my memories of her she was always smiling or laughing. What a great person! She was “Mom” to Joe’s “Pop”. Sally was that constant, that rock, who helped to stabilize our universe. She will be missed. Pop’s getting back the love of his life.
