Frank William Prentice, Sr., age 58, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, after fighting a short and courageous battle with cancer.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Prentice was born in Wilmington on March 1, 1953. He had been employed with Trans Cargo LLC in New Castle for the past 18 years and currently held a position as the company’s operations manager.
Active in his community, Mr. Prentice was a member of New Castle Moose Lodge #1578 and the New Castle Rod & Gun Club, and was a social member of the Minquadale Fire Company. Well known as a devoted and loving family man, he greatly enjoyed taking camping trips with his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as with his many friends, including Duff and Lee Allison. He had a great passion for vintage cars and delighted in caring for his pet Boxers, Maya and Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank S. “Mick” Prentice, his stepmother, Joann M. Prentice, and by brothers, Stephen G. Prentice and Michael J. Prentice, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Darlene L. Davis Prentice; children, Frank William Prentice, Jr. (Tina) of Middletown, Christopher T. Prentice, Sr. of Bear, Valerie L. Cordel (Larry) of New Castle, and Jay Prentice (Catherine) of New Castle; mother and stepfather, Mary and John Simons of Otego, NY; sister, Abbie Loveless (Stephen) of Mary Esther, FL; brother, Art Prentice (Rose) of Smyrna; sister, Dixie Cunningham of Felton; and grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Kaylee, Shayla Marie, Hailey, Breanna, Frank III, Ronald III, and Riley.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Prentice may be made to Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.
