Gary J. Wortz

Mr. Gary J. Wortz, age 61, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011.
Gary was born in Darby, PA on September 21, 1950, son of the late Robert Wortz and Doris Sommers Wortz. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the US Army, and, following his retirement from military service, accepted a position with the Brandywine School District where he was employed as a maintenance manager for 23 years.
In his leisure hours, Gary greatly enjoyed both working on and driving all types of fast vehicles. He delighted in speed and was at his happiest when skillfully testing the limits of boats, motorcycles, and cars.
He is survived by his son, James Wortz of Ocala, FL; sister, Helene Andress (Dennis) of Camarillo, CA; and good friend, Barbara Rost of New Castle. Gary will also be missed by his close friends and companions, Casey, his African Grey parrot, and Smokey, his Himalayan cat.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Entombment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
