George C. Wilson

George C. Wilson, age 90, of Newark DE, passed away peacefully at Shipley Manor, on December 18, 2013.
Mr. Wilson was born on December 1, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Curtis) Wilson. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1941 and soon enlisted in the Navy. In 1943, he was transferred to the Marine Corps, where he worked in radar. After the war, he attended and graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute in Valparaiso, Indiana. He began a 30 year career with NBC (WMAQ) Radio and Television in Chicago. While there he was an audio engineer and later, technical director. He won a Chicago Television Emmy Award in 1961 for best audio engineer. He retired from NBC in 1979. His interests included photography and playing the electronic organ. He was a technically gifted person and at one time built his own electronic organ.
His first wife of 50 years, Maxine Wilson (Gholson) predeceased him in 1996 and his second wife, Edith W. Wilson, passed away on December 24, 2013. He is survived by his son, David L. Wilson; daughter-in-law, Anne C. Wilson (Sheridan); daughters, Georgine S. Wagner and Suzanne R. Hayes; son-in-law, Ronald Hayes; step-daughter, Helena Ferris; step-grandsons, Willie and John Ferris; step-granddaughter Edie Warmkessel; grandchildren Aaron Wilson, Dara Wilson Allgeier, Christopher Wagner, and Jennifer Hayes Brestel; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Shipley Manor for its considerate and compassionate care of George for the last two months of his life.
Friends may call from 11 am until 12 Noon on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Spicer Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle DE. A committal service will be held at 1 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow.
