George E. Mulhern, Sr.

April 24, 1929 - September 19, 2019

George E. Mulhern, Sr., age 90, of Elkton, MD, and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on April 24, 1929, he was a son of the late James and Anna (Brady) Mulhern.  George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He worked as a chemical technician for DuPont, retiring after 35 dedicated years.  After retirement, George enjoyed working for H & R Block for 5 years.  In his earlier years, he was the President of the Athletics “Booster” Club in West Carrollton, OH.  George was a true family man and enjoyed family gatherings.  He was very friendly, loved people and was a devout Catholic.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his siblings, James Mulhern, Thomas Mulhern, Joseph Mulhern, Margaret George, Edward Mulhern, Anna May Gibbons, Francis Mulhern, John Mulhern and Elizabeth Varley. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Theresa Mulhern; children, George E. Mulhern, Jr. (Susan) of Colorado Springs, CO, Kevin J. Mulhern (Janet) of Purcellvile, VA, Joan Teagle (John) of Jeffersonville, IN and Steven R. Mulhern (Jan) of Columbus, OH; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am.  Interment will be held privately at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Newark Senior Center, 200 White Chapel Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
