George F. Ramsey
Born: 7/1/1949
Died: 11/10/2012
Mr. George F. Ramsey, age 63, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
A native Delawarean, George was born in Wilmington on July 1, 1949, son of the late Friend Ramsey and Mary Doolittle Ramsey. As a young man, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a sergeant with the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division. In civilian life, he made his career in the construction industry, first as a drywall contractor and later as a master carpenter and recording secretary with Union Local 626 in New Castle. He retired in 2011.
In his leisure hours, George greatly enjoyed an active life–riding his Harley, jogging, and trail biking with his kids. He was an avid bowler at the Pleasant Hill Lanes and Bowlerama. Knowledgeable about many types of antiques and vintage items, he also relished the challenge of finding interesting pieces at auctions and estate sales.
He is survived by his children, Patricia A. Shaver (Brian) of Newark, Jennifer R. Ramsey of Bear, and Jamie F. Ramsey (Kimberley) of Clayton; sister, Debra Schwartz of Felton; grandchildren, Matthew, Christian, Kirsten, Kyle, Brianna, Colin, Taylor, Carter, and Hailey; and his fiancée, Carol Roberts with whom he lived for the past 12 years.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, November 15th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 am on Friday, November 16th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
