Gerald Peter “Jerry” Kearney

August 11, 1934 - October 14, 2022

Gerald Peter “Jerry” Kearney, age 88, of Newark, DE, (formally of North Wilmington) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 14, 2022.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 11, 1934, he was a son of the late Francis and Helen Cecelia (Lynch) Kearney.  Jerry graduated from St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia and attended college at St. Joseph in Philadelphia before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country.  Jerry was honorably discharged and began his career at General Electric in the Aerospace division retiring after 33 years as a traffic manager.

In his spare time, Jerry was an avid golfer and a member of the senior golf league at Clayton Park in PA.  He also enjoyed reading, walking, and visits to the Jersey Shore.  Jerry was a true gentleman, always complimentary, and gracious. Jerry was a wonderful man who loved to laugh, had a very good sense of humor, was an excellent storyteller and will be missed very much by his friends and family. Above all Jerry cherished being with his family most, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Theresa Will and F. Robert Kearney.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Elizabeth (Schwartz) Kearney; children, Jerry Kearney (Missy), Ann Treml (Jeff), and Stephen Kearney (Heather); grandchildren, Nathan (Megan), Shane (Caitlyn), Alison (Maxx), Brett, Paul, Madison, and Morgan; and great-granddaughters, Sawyer and Maeve.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am.  Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s name to Holy Angels Church, at the address listed above.
