Mr. Kostantinos “Gus” Tsionas, age 79, of Greenville, DE, a well-respected business leader and beloved member of the Greek community, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013.
Born in Larrissa, Greece on October 17, 1933, Gus was the son of the late Georgia and Evangelos Tsionas. In 1962, he immigrated to the United States, where he embraced the American dream. Beginning as a baker, he soon established his own popular restaurant. More successful restaurants would follow and Gus emerged as a leading voice in the business community. His keen eye, business acumen, and sound financial sense facilitated the establishment of a formidable real estate holding business.
Gus believed strongly in giving back to the Greek community. He was instrumental in assisting many of his countrymen in immigrating to the United States. Without fanfare, he gave of his time and resources by providing financial support, practical guidance, and words of encouragement to countless endeavors.
He was also a very active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
Most of all, Gus loved his family. His happiest times were always those spent in the company of his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Foula Vasilikou Tsionas; daughters, Katerina Hatzopoulos of Greece, Georgia Tsionas-Halakos (Demetrios) of Greenville, and Angela Tsionas-Matulas (Anagnostis) of Greenville; brother, Efthimios; and grandchildren, Billy, Alex, Dia, Dino, Kostas, and Ioanna. He was preceded in death by brothers, Demitrios and Ioannis.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Entombment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gus may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at the address above.
