Gustavo Alejandro “Gusti” “Gus” Suglia
April 5, 1967 - September 21, 2024
Gustavo Alejandro “Gusti” “Gus” Suglia, age 57, of Lancaster, PA, and formerly of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends who loved him most, after a hard-fought battle with cancer on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 5, 1967, he was the son of Gaetano and Angela (Giardina) Suglia. Gustavo moved to the United States in 1987 to work with his family in the restaurant business, including Suglia’s, Nick & Joe’s, Angelo’s, and Cuzino’s. Soon after, he married Susan and started a family which includes his two sons Dante (32) and Gaetano (26) in Frackville, PA, before moving to Delaware in 1999. Gustavo was employed as a restaurant manager by a few of the family businesses for many years before making a career change by joining Cabela’s/Bass Pro Shop at the Christiana Mall. He initially worked as a warehouse receiver and later as an inventory specialist, which resulted in a less demanding work schedule allowing him more time to enjoy life with his family.
Gustavo was a kind-hearted and fun-loving person, yet he was also very reserved in opening himself up to others. Having worked with many people during his career as a restaurant manager, it was during his employment at Cabela’s that he made many new acquaintances and developed some lasting friendships with his co-workers. However, Gustavo’s family was his biggest priority always putting them first, even during his illness. He visited his parents weekly until he moved to Lancaster in 2023 due to a new career opportunity for his wife. During this time, his visits to Delaware occurred on his treatment days when returning to Lancaster from Thomas Jefferson’s Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia. While Gustavo enjoyed many things in life, he usually left the social calendar and adventure planning to his wife. Together they spent time dining out, visiting wineries, traveling and simply enjoying quality time together. The love they shared was obvious to everyone around them through personal interactions as well as from the many photos taken and shared on social media.
He will be deeply missed by many, especially his loving wife of 33 years, Susan; sons, Dante and Gaetano; parents, Gaetano and Angela Suglia of Newark; sister and first best friend in life, Claudia Lauer (Gabe) of Newark; nephew, Luis Lauer (Bridget); niece, Angela Lauer (Javon); cousin, Dario Amato (Jennifer Allegretti); and many aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral Mass to celebrate his life will begin at 11 am on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 301 Lock Street, Chesapeake City, MD.
In lieu of flowers, Gustavo requests that donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online by clicking here.

My deepest condolences to Gus’s family. I met Gus 4 years ago when I became employed at Cabelas. Gus was always someone I could go to for help when I moved to the warehouse. Gus was always so pleasant and would say the funniest things and always made everyone laugh. We were all so sad to see him leave Cabelas. I am so honored that i was able to call him a friend. I send my prayers to his family during this difficult time.

Susan, I’m so sorry to read of Gustavo’s passing. I’ve followed your many adventures on FB and am happy you got to Alaska this year. He found his soulmate in you and was lucky to have you as his wife, friend, confidante and activity planner. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time and there are no words to express the heartbreak. You have many friends and family praying for you but most importantly God is walking with you and sees every tear that is shed, hears every prayer and is your comfort on this journey.
