Harriet S. Marley, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Harriet was born in Wilmington on August 30, 1926, daughter of the late James Walls and Mary Harrison Walls. She was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church. For many years, she operated her own professional daycare center in her home.
Well known for her warm, loving personality and nurturing spirit, Harriet devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She remained in constant contact with her daughters over the years and was always available to give helpful guidance and support to anyone in need. In her leisure hours, she greatly enjoyed playing lively card games and bingo with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Murray, great granddaughter, Samantha Miller, brother, Walter “Butch” Walls, and sisters, Dot Scheerer and Catherine “Tiny” Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Ann Ennis (Robert), Karen Smith (Dan), and Mary Alice Maichle (Stephen); son-in-law, Bill Murray; brothers, James “Sonny” Walls and John “Jack” Brainard; sisters, Ethel McElduff, Mary “Peg” Houser, and Doris Gadley; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
The family extends special thanks to the loving and caring Greenbank staff at Brandywine Nursing Home for their many kindnesses to Harriet during her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 12 noon.
