Harry W. Wolfe, Jr.
Harry W. Wolfe, Jr., Ph.D., age 88, of Newark, DE, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Born in Lebanon, PA, on February 6, 1924, he was the son of the late Harry W. Wolfe, Sr. and Edna Irene Spitler Wolfe.
Harry proudly and honorably served his country in the US Navy as an aviator for 5 years, and then continued his service as an active reservist for 30 years, retiring as a captain.
He spent his professional career as a chemist at the DuPont Company’s Chestnut Run site, retiring in 1986 after 33 years of employment. He was a member of the American Chemical Society.
A longtime member of the Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, Harry was passionate in his beliefs in the education of God’s truth regarding creation, and founded the Creation Research Institute.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Spitler Wolfe. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth Fravel Wolfe; two children, James R. Wolfe of Newark, DE, and M. Kathleen Frederick of Chadds Ford, PA; sister, Mildred Kathleen Zug of Harrisburg, PA; two grandsons and extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Bible Fellowship Church of Newark, 808 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702, where visitation will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
