Helen E. Harvilla

Helen E. Harvilla, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Born in Hazleton, PA on November 24, 1926, Helen was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Anna (Booth) Schlauch. She was a talented homemaker, who dedicated her life to caring for her family.
A devout Catholic, Helen was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Church in Newark. She was lovingly referred to as the candy lady by the neighborhood children. An avid baseball fan, Helen loved cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies every season. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and baking in her leisure time. A beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Helen will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Harvilla. Helen is survived by her son, Joseph S. Harvilla and grandson, Justin Wolfe, both of Newark.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Wednesday morning, April 19, 2017, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

What a sweet, loving woman. Always so friendly and had a smile on her face. She Loved the Phillies and always made great cookies with m&m’s. May she rest in peace.

Helen & Joe were our neighbors in Greenleaf Manor and our son Ken was a good friend of Joey’s. Helen was a sweetheart, so good with kids. We are so glad she is now reunited with her beloved Joe.
