Herta M. Dignan

August 7, 1937 - December 29, 2023

Herta M. Dignan, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023.

Born in Oldendorf, Germany on August 7, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Ludwig and Paula (Danger) Kramer. Herta worked as a shipping clerk at Avon for many years until her retirement.

Herta was an active and devoted member of the St. Margaret of Scotland church community. She dedicated much of her time to sewing, cooking, and baking for her family and friends whether it be at church, work, or for special events. Herta and her late husband Walt enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV and camping with their children and grandchildren. They also built a cabin in Pennsylvania with close friends, which provided them with so many lasting memories. Herta’s German heritage will forever live on through her loved ones and cherished friends both here and overseas. She will forever be in our hearts.

In addition to her parents, Herta was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Dignan; and daughter, Marlene H. Fiala. She is survived by her children, Michael W. Dignan of Wilmington, Ann M. Carpenter of Northeast, MD, and Steven G. Dignan (Debbie) of Lewes; son-in-law, Ted Fiala of Landenberg, PA; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. A committal service will begin at 11 am on Monday, February 5, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Herta’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 250, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online by clicking here.
