I. Claire “Peach” Austin, age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Born on October 4, 1927 in Wilmington, DE, she was a daughter of Willard and Iva McKendrick. After graduating from high school, Peach spent many years creating a loving home for her family. She enjoyed baking and fed her wanderlust through travel. Peach was a life member of the Five Points Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She treasured spending time with her family, pet dogs, and always looked forward to family gatherings.

 In addition to her parents, Peach is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edward C. Austin; son, Edward W. Austin; sisters, Winifred McKendrick and Helen Baffone; and grandchild, Chris Younker. She is survived by her children, Deborah Pruitt of Wilmington, Vicki Loney of Galivants Ferry, SC, Donna Younker (Robert) of Newark, and Gregory Austin (Cathy) of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Susan Austin; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peach’s memory to the Five Points Ladies Axillary, 209 South Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19804.

  • Granny was a wonder, kind, sweet and very compassionate lady that I was lucky enough to call my grandmother. Granny will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

  • Granny, you will be missed, it doesn’t seem that long ago that you were showing me your newest motor-home or we were having our annual get together Christmas night. I will never forget spending time at your house play with blocks or taking the dog for a walk. I will always cherish these memories and forever Miss You.

  • I’m so sorry for the passing of my Aunt Peachie and your mother …she was a wonderful woman and will never be forgotten. She was truly a remarkable woman and loved by everyone who she touched. I’ll miss taking some of her candies and sweets to her that she always loved ..I’m so sorry I was not available to attend her service at graveside but my thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. Sending love.

  • Mrs Austin was like a second mom to me…..Donna & I were inseparable…..unless Mrs Austin had to walk me home at 1 am 3 houses up because I was homesick at a sleep over…… she made the best spaghetti and always have me over …..oh and also great sweet tea……..she was a beautiful woman !!
