Ida L. Maxwell, age 96, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Born in Oakland, CA, on December 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joe C. and Mary (Souza) Ledo. Ida dedicated her career as a cafeteria worker in the Colonial School District and retired after several years of service.

Raised in Hawaii, Ida met her husband during Pearl Harbor. She was a devout Catholic. Ida enjoyed family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed a chance to play bingo.

In addition to her parents, Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Maxwell. She is survived by her children, William J. Maxwell (Sissy) of New Castle, Paul H. Maxwell (Jayne) of New Castle and Marie I. Ferrier (Michael) of Wilmington; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am, on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ida’s memory to Holloway Terrace Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 684, New Castle, DE 19720 or Ursuline Academy Building Fund, 1106 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

    My heart is so totally with you right now. I know how hard this is on you and how hard the road has been getting to this point. There is nothing that compares to losing your mother.
    My love to you and Mike and all your family. Stay strong, knowing that you did everything you could for her and that she is in paradise now – and take good care of yourself through the grieving process. So wish I could be there with you.
