Irene M. Gordon

Born January 24, 1935

Rene Gordon, age 82, of Millsboro, DE, and formerly of New Castle, DE, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her family on Friday, October 20, 2017.

A native Delawarean, Rene was born in Wilmington on January 24, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Algie and Ethel (Szegen) Tancredi.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and sister. A life member of the Minquadale Ladies Auxiliary, Rene served as past vice president and also as the chair of the Sunshine committee for many years. She was also a member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro.

Rene enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, the beach, and her greatest joy was spending time with her family during the holidays and sharing picnics at the campground. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Rene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, John T. Gordon, and her daughter, Donna M. Grzybowski. She is survived by her children, John T. Gordon III (Irene) of New Castle, Gary Gordon (Sheila) of Millsboro, and June M. Ogden (Jim) of Newark; sister, Debby A. Masten (Terry) of New Castle; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Thursday afternoon, October 26, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • I knew Irene since becoming a member of Minquadale back in 1985 she was a Very friendly lady who I had the pleasure of Meeting & talking with Her Especially at Conference Time she would always come to the Hospitality Room & spend some time with The Other members of the Ladies Auxiliary.
