Iva L. Pettyjohn Taylor
Born June 9, 1924
Iva L. Pettyjohn Taylor, age 89, of Elkton, MD and formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
Iva was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina on June 9, 1924 and was a daughter of the late James H. Pettyjohn and Cordie D. Messick Pettyjohn. She was a talented and devoted homemaker who cared lovingly for her family.
Iva was a longtime and active member of Quilts for Comfort, where she enjoyed creating quilts that were donated to the patients of local hospitals. She relished being outdoors working in her flower garden. Above all else, Iva adored spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wilson Taylor and 12 siblings. Iva is survived by her children,Daniel L. Taylor and wife Debra, A. Christine Jackson and husband William and Bonita T. Cherry and husband Stephen; brother, William Harold Pettyjohn; and 8 grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the compassionate and professional care provided to Iva during her illness by the staff of Seasons Hospice.
A visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday morning, June 2, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A graveside service will follow at the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1195 Firetower Road, Colora, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Iva’s name may be sent to Seasons Hospice, 253 Lewis Lane, Suite 303, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

To the Taylor family…..your Mom was a wonderful, dear lady who was not only one of my Mom’s sisters but her dear friend as well! There was nothing which required mending which Aunt Iva could not fix! And yes….her flower gardens were always amazing! Rest in Peace Aunt Iva.
