Mrs. Jacquelyn L. King, known fondly as “Jackie,” age 61, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Jackie was born in Wilmington on August 15, 1950, daughter of the late John W. Cole, Jr. and Lillian E. Ainsworth Cole. She would go on to make her career with the Christina School District, where she retired as the guidance department secretary at Christiana High School in October 2011 after 21 years of service.
Active in her community, Jackie was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company. She also served on the Colonial District School Board for 15 years.
Jackie enjoyed quilting and caring for her pet cats.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Ronald H. King, Sr.; her son, Ronald H. King, Jr. of New Castle; and her grandson, Aiden King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda L. Nutter, and by her sisters, Carol L. Cole and Karen L. Newman.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jackie may be made to the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 645, New Castle, DE 19720; or to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
