James Edward “Big Jim” Sobolak, Sr. - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

James Edward “Big Jim” Sobolak, Sr.

July 14, 1961 - October 14, 2022

James Edward “Big Jim” Sobolak, Sr., age 61, went to heaven on Friday, October 14, 2022.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ on July 14, 1961, he was a son of the late John Walter and Margaret (Favire) Sobolak, Jr. Jim made his career as a welder at Potts Welding, where he dedicated 23 years of service.

In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed fishing, on land and by boat, riding his motorcycle with friends and family, annual trips to Wildwood New Jersey, and spending time with friends at St. Anthony’s Club. A devoted friend and family man, Jim put his family above all and was always willing to help anyone in need. He led a simple but full life and never complained about the hardships he was going through. Jim will truly and sadly be missed by all who knew him. There will only be one “Big Jim.”

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathleen Sobolak and Rose Sobolak. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 41 years, Cynthia M. (Walls) Sobolak; son, James E. Sobolak, Jr.; grandchildren, James E. Sobolak III, Brooklyne P. Sobolak, and Erin M. Reeve; great-grandson, Bentley C. Banning; siblings, Diana Welsh, John Sobolak III and Nancy Foraker (Danny); many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, too many to list.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or by clicking here.
