James Emery Griffin

James Emery Griffin, age 71, of Pennsville, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 20, 1953, he was a son of the late James and Luella (Barksdale) Griffin. James was a graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School and attended Brooklyn College. He enlisted in the United States Army during Desert Storm and served as a cook. The Army later sent James to culinary school, where he mastered new skills that he would later use to become a chef at Atria of Tanglewood. James also met his first wife, Lelanda during his time of service.

In his spare time, James loved to play, as well as watch, basketball and bowling. He also enjoyed traveling to new places.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his first wife, Lelanda Griffin; daughter, Pia Elise Lowman; sister, Elizath Griffin; and stepsister, Debbie. He is survived by his wife, Veronica (Whitelow) Lowman-Griffin, whom he first met in elementary school; children, Yasminda Griffin, Christopher Griffin, Mike White, Crystal Jackson, Gregory Lowman (Dyani), Shaun Lowman, Kelvin Lowman, and Ceciley McKenzie; brother, Gary Griffin; stepmom, Shirley Griffin; step-siblings, Dawn Neecee and Charles Henley (Shay); and grandchildren, Monet, Mylah, Christopher, Keon, Logan, Milan, Cameron, Quinten, Onica, Layla, Emmitt, Laken, and Naomi.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a time of sharing will begin at 12:30 pm. A committal service will follow in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
