JAMES H. “JIM” LEITHREN, JR.
Mr. James Leithren, Jr., age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Leithren was born in Glasgow, DE, on July 30, 1925 to the late James H. Leithren, Sr. and Mabel Dill Leithren. After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy, he was dedicated to his job as an industrial engineer at the Chrysler Assembly Plant, where he retired after many years of service. Mr. Leithren was a devoted family man and enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary J. Bedwell Leithren; children, David A. Leithren and wife, Kelly of Elkton, MD; Joanne M. Armstrong and husband, Rob of San Antonio, TX; J. Michael Leithren and wife, Colleen of Newark, DE; and Karen C. O’Keefe and husband, Sean of Gibsonton, FL; sister, Betty L. Basciani of Chadds Ford, PA; 10 grandchildren, Erin, Christian, Ashley, David, Heather, Michael, Susan, Christine, Brian and Connor; and 3 great grandchildren, Emma, J.T. and Mikenna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Burns and Henrietta West; and granddaughter, Rebekah Leithren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, November 1st at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
