James Lindsay “Jim” Hoffman, Sr.

November 13, 1938 - January 30, 2020

           James Lindsay “Jim” Hoffman, Sr., age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on November 13, 1938, he was the son of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Baker) Hoffman.  Jim attended Claymont High School and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served 4 years as an MP.  He worked for the DuPont Company for 15 years and during this same time he owned and operated Hoffman Heating and Air Conditioning for 40 years, where he made many friends.

          Jim was an avid sports fan and for 25 years coached Newark Little League and at the same time coached football for Holy Angels.  He loved and supported the UD Blue Hens for many years.  Jim always enjoyed making others laugh.  Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend to many.

          Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra J. (Harkcom) Hoffman; children, Lisa Hale, James L. Hoffman, Jr., Amy Hoffman and Victoria Hoffman; sister, Ruth Ann Jeandell; grandchildren, Lindsay Bissonette (Leo), Kyrie Hoffman, Tyler Hale, Amaya Hoffman and Logan McHugh; and faithful companion, Buddy.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 7 pm.  A committal service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 7, 2020, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
