James R. Myers

Mr. James R. Myers, known fondly as “Jim,” age 80, of Clayton, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Myers was born in Wilmington on April 23, 1932, son of the late Joseph A. Myers, Sr. and Margaret M. (Fox) Myers. He made his career as a chemical operator with the former Atlas Powder Company (later ICI) at the Atlas Point Plant in New Castle, where he retired after 35 years of service.
A truly gifted handyman throughout his life, Mr. Myers excelled in mechanical engineering projects. He was an avid motorcyclist for many years and delighted in going fishing. He was also well known for his gentle soul and compassionate nature.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Virginia Emory and her husband Ronald of Wilmington, and Lenna Reed of Centreville, MD; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph A. Myers, Jr., John D. “Jack” Myers, and Robert L. Myers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 11, 2012, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
