          Janet T. Poist, age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on August 18, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Nellie (White/Thielemann) Lorenowicz and her stepfather, Bennie. Janet was a book keeper at Brandywine Terrace Apartment for many years.

          Janet was a devout catholic and lifelong member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church. A friend to the community, she volunteered regularly at her church where she also enjoyed playing bingo. Her greatest pleasure was feeding those she loved and would host dinner every Sunday. Janet loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and will be remembered for her strong personality and her compassionate and caring ways.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James “Jimmy” Thielemann.  Janet is survived by her children, Lorraine “Laurie” Hutchinson (Kevin), Jennifer Pritchard (Ken) and Robert “Lance” Poist (Sherry); sister-in-law, Alice Thielemann; grandchildren, Stefanie, Kevin, Jacob, Austin, Joey and Sarah; and great grandson, Daniel.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Rd, New Castle, DE 19720.  Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Holy Spirit R.C. Church at the above address.

  • I am so sorry to hear of Janet’s passing. She was a wonderful neighbor and worked so hard at Holy Spirit Church. She would stuff church bulletins for me and the Knights of Columbus. May she be at peace and prayers go out to her family.
