Jean I. Strain, age 83, of Middletown, DE, and formally of Sun City Center, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

Born in Oil City, PA on September 27, 1934, she was a daughter of the late James and Edna (Sisney) Ingham. Jean was a graduate of Glenville State (WV) College. In addition to raising her family, she was a first grade teacher for the Colonial School District from 1956 until 1964.

Jean gave of her time as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Sun City Center, FL and enjoyed traveling the world.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. Strain, Jr. and son James Strain, Sr. Jean is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Brainard of Middletown; brother, Thomas Ingham (Peggy) of Murrells Inlet, SC; and grandchildren, Laura and Jordan Brainard, Amanda Jacobs (Sean), and James Strain, Jr.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday morning, October 30, 2017, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc., 4210 77th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221.

  • We wanted to share our condolences with the Strain family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.
