Jeannette Rothensies Johns

Jeannette Rothensies Johns, age 98, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Cokesbury Village where she resided for over 30 years.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on May 19, 1916, Mrs. Johns was the daughter of the late Leo David Rothensies and Mary Rhoades Slonaker. She attended Wilmington Friends School and later the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA. After graduating from the Connecticut College for Women, Mrs. Johns accepted a position with the DuPont Company in the advertising department, but left to enlist in the US Navy where she served as an ensign during WWII. While serving in the Navy, she married Willard L. Johns, with whom she shared 64 years.
She was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in Wilmington where she served as a member of the altar guild and was a member of the Women of St. Andrew’s. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Johns will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard L. Johns. Mrs. Johns is survived by her children, Marianne J. Cook of Wayne, PA, Carol Russell Troxell (Robert) of Charlotsville, VA, David W. Johns (JoAnne) of Malvern, PA and Stephen L. Johns (Marybeth) of Hockessin, DE; 5 grandchildren, David Cook, Elizabeth Herlihy, Marisa Ciarrocki, Julia Johns and Christopher Johns; and 6 great grandchildren, William Cook, Samuel Cook, James Herlihy, Hannah Herlihy, Henry Cook and Benjamin Cook.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Episcopal Church of Ss. Andrew and Matthew, 719 Shipley Street (Shipley Street at Eighth Street), Wilmington, DE. Interment will be held privately.
