Jimmie Lee “Curley” Briers, Sr., age 81, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021, surrounded by his children. Jimmie was a caring and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Born in Montgomery, AL, on May 2, 1940, Jimmie was the son of the late James and Arleathia (Thomas) Briers, Sr. He was a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity at Alabama State University. Upon graduation, he began his professional career as a history teacher. He later transitioned into chemical and pharmaceutical sales, working for Mobil Oil and ICI Pharmaceuticals (now, AstraZeneca). Upon his retirement in 2005, Jimmie spent much of his free time at his favorite fishing spots throughout Delaware and Maryland. Jimmie was also an avid football fan, always rooting for the Alabama State University Hornets and the Dallas Cowboys. He always enjoyed travelling, especially for family vacations and to visit his siblings and their families. Most of all, Jimmie loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Marchelle W. Briers of Conyers, GA, Jimmie L. Briers, Jr. of New Castle, and Jerry A. Cephas (Eric) of Williamstown, NJ; siblings, James Briers, Jr. (Frances) of San Antonio, TX, Willie Briers of Montgomery, AL, and Loretta Williams of Fayetteville, NC; two grandchildren, Justice Briers and Aden Cephas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica M. Briers, his infant grandson, Deacon L. Cephas; and siblings, Dorothy Johnson and Charlie Briers.

On behalf of the Briers and Cephas families, a special thank you is extended to all of the staff at Coral Springs Nursing Home (Wilmington, DE), as well as Bayada Hospice, for the kindness, friendship and loving care that was provided to Jimmie over the past few years.
