Joan Philipson

Mrs. Joan Philipson, age 68, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
Joan was born in Denton, MD, on March 16, 1943. A talented homemaker and gracious hostess throughout her life, she was especially well known for her wonderful cooking and her gift for choosing and improving new recipes. She also enjoyed tending her beautiful flower garden each year, bird-watching, crafting, and scrapbooking. She was an avid traveler, as well, and looked forward to vacationing at Lost Bear Lodge, Broadkill Beach and taking cruises.
Joan delighted in heading the F.O.C. (“Fraternal Order of Cousins”) and in organizing many fun family gatherings. She took special pleasure in choosing presents for both family and friends and often gave what she called “Happy Day” gifts as special remembrances to the many people she loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Paul E. Philipson; sons, Barry J. Philipson and Allen E. Philipson and wife Tammy; mother, Flora J. Kibler; brothers, Joseph L. Kibler, Jr. and wife Barbara, Ned A. Kibler and wife Kate, and Mark W. Kibler; grandson, Adam McDonald; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her granddogs, Duran, Tunney, and Sadie. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph L. Kibler, Sr., and brother, David J. Kibler.
Visitation will be held from 7 pm to 9 pm on Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
