Joann Read Gentner
July 12, 1954 - December 9, 2024
Joann Read Gentner, age 70, of Townsend, DE, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Wilmington, DE on July 12, 1954, she was a daughter of Henry Read and the late Shirley Hendrickson Read. Joann was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, a passion she shared with her family. She was a dedicated mother who devoted her life to her family. Her commitment to her children extended beyond the home; she was active in the PTA, coached little league teams, and attended countless extracurricular activities, always cheering them on with unwavering support.
In addition to her mother, Joann was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Read, Sr.; and 3 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Adler (Scott) of Townsend, Richard Gentner, Jr. (Brandi) of Georgetown, and Kelly Caraballo (Juan) of Milford; father, Henry Read (Anett); brother, Michael Read, Sr. (Roberta Lee); and sister, Barbara Mergenthaler. Joann was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and she cherished her many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a celebration of life will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
