Joanne Sczubelek

Mrs. Joanne Sczubelek, age 63, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013.
Joanne was born in Jersey City, NJ, on June 14, 1949 and attended college at Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH, where she was member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. A talented homemaker throughout her life, she was an especially gifted seamstress, designing and crafting beautiful clothing and other lovely handmade pieces for many years.
Known fondly as “Granny” by her family and her many friends, Joanne was a dedicated volunteer at the Carrie Downie Elementary School and received national recognition for her service. She was also a very active and faithful member of Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green in New Castle.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 24 years, Jerome F. Sczubelek, and by her mother, Elsie. She is survived by her parents, Paul and Betsey; daughter, Harley; son, Jonathan; son-in-law, Glenn; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Sydney and George; grandson, Ben; great grandson, Christian; daughter-in-law, Kitty; and granddaughter, Jessie.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green, Second and Harmony Streets, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Granny may be made to Carrie Downie Elementary School Family Crisis Intervention Team, Attention: Nikki Jones, 1201 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720; or to Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green, 100 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE 19720.
