John David Raughley, Sr., age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at his home.
Born in Wyoming, DE, on July 29, 1922, Mr. Raughley was the son of the late Lesley T. Raughley and Alberta LaCone Raughley. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II and received his honorable discharge from active duty in 1946. In civilian life, Mr. Raughley made his career with the General Motors Corporation, where he retired in 1985 after 31 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his soulmate and beloved wife of 53 years, Dolores “Dee” K. Oberly Raughley. He is survived by his children, John D. Raughley, Jr. (Lorraine) of Newark, Lilly West (Steve) of Auburndale, FL, Tom Raughley (Christy) of Townsend, and Scott Raughley of Newark; brother, Lester Raughley (Pat) of New Castle; sister, Pauline Jarman of Stanton; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many friends. He was dearly loved by many and his gifts as a storyteller will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.
