John R. Morris

John R. Morris, age 84, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 28, 2016.
Born in Centerville, MD on October 31, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Wilhelmina (Turner) Morris. Bob proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. He made his career as a supervisor in the dietary services department at Governor Bacon Health Center and later at Christiana Hospital. Bob then accepted a position as a security guard with the DuPont Company at the Stine-Haskell Research Center.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies each season and watching the Kentucky Derby. Bob loved listening to bluegrass music, collecting antique die cast cars, and visiting antique car shows. He adored spending time outdoors tending to his yard. Above all else, Bob was happiest in the company of his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Patricia A. Fisher and Hope L. Dallabrida; and brothers, Charles, Paul and William. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Thelma M. (McGrath) Morris; children, Robert E. Faries of Washington State, Steven L. Faries of Bear, William M. Morris of South Carolina, Dwayne F. Morris of Newark and Vincent D. Morris of Bear; brother, Lewis Morris of Stanton; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:15 am on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2016 at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
