John Swan, Jr.

Chief Master Sgt. John Swan, Jr., known fondly as “Jake,” age 94, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Sgt. Swan was born in Delaware City on November 9, 1917, son of the late John Swan, Sr. and Edith Bendler Swan. He faithfully served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and the US Air Force during the Korean War. From 1947 to 1977 he served in the Delaware Air National Guard.
Sgt. Swan had many positions of responsibility, chiefly in aircraft maintenance. He retired at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after a military career spanning four decades. His patriotism and dedication will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elma Magargal Swan, in 1989. He is survived by his son, Herbert Swan of Bear; grandson, John R. Swan and his wife, Susan, of Smyrna; and a great granddaughter, Megan D. Swan.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Port Penn.
