Jon W. Lupfer

Mr. Jon W. Lupfer, age 77, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
Born in Elkton, MD, on October 11, 1934, Mr. Lupfer was the son of the late John William Lupfer and Esther R. Armour Lupfer. As a young man, he served his county in the US Army and later attended Goldey Beacom College. He would go on to accept a position with the DuPont Company where he worked for 31 years before retiring from the shipping and receiving department at the Chestnut Run site in 1990.
Active in his community, Mr. Lupfer was, in earlier years, a member of the Chesapeake City Fire Company. He was a devout Christian and had been a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of New Castle for 50 years.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Lupfer greatly enjoyed fishing, crabbing, goose hunting, playing cards with friends, vacationing at the beach, and spending time on his boat. He also looked forward to cheering each season for his favorite teams, the Phillies and the Flyers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey P. Greene Lupfer, whom he met while skating at the Merriland Roller Rink; daughters, Robin L. Lupfer of New Castle and Donna L. Henry (David) of New Castle; and granddaughter, Taylor Henry.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of New Castle, 901 E. Basin Road (Rts. 273 & 141), New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the church. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
