Joseph C. Pope

Joseph C. Pope, age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
Born in West Jefferson, NC on February 18, 1930, he was a son of the late Avery and AnnaLee (Mahala) Pope. Joseph dedicated his career as an automotive assembler with General Motors at the Boxwood Rd. plant and retired after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mima J. (Bobbitt) Pope; daughter, Mary Jo Peplinski (Steve, Sr.) of Elkton; grandchildren, Steven Peplinski, Jr. of Elkton and Joshua Peplinski of San, Diego, CA; brothers, Charlie and Bryce Pope; and sisters, Margaret Norris, Doris Belfield, Jackie Masten and Nora Cole. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Burl, Norman, and Lester Pope.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s name to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
