Joseph Clyde “Joe” Neel

Joseph Clyde “Joe” Neel, age 90, of Delaware City, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Born in Delaware City, DE on November 23, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph and Alberta Neel, he was one of five brothers with an older sister. Joe attended 12 years of school in Delaware City, served two years in the U.S. Army, and graduated in 1959 from the University of Delaware with a degree in chemical engineering. Over his 30-year career, he worked for Atlas Powder and Avisun in Delaware and for Amoco Chemicals in Alvin, Texas.
Joe was a talented woodworker and artist, known for his replica birdhouses of old homes and buildings around town. During his retirement years, he was active with school, library and town projects, and he established a scholarship for area students at the University of Delaware named in honor of his foster mother, Alice Dinsmore. Joe was an energetic man and a good husband, father and friend.
Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Kistler Neel; his daughter, Dr. Amy T. Neel (Mike Hymel) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and his son, John Christopher Neel (Dawn) of Victoria, Texas; his sister-in-law, Sara Augustine of Sherwood Park; his half-sister, Charlene Whitehead of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.
The Neel family would like to extend their gratitude for the assistance and support of Delaware Hospice.

hugs to mrs neel, amy, chris and all relatives. mr neel was such a nice man and very talented w/ his wood work. i totally remember their game room on briarwild ct w/ the game called pachinko (sp?) and thought how hip that the neels have this cool game. loved going to their house on xmas eve then heading to hillcrest to see the lights
