Joseph “Popsy” Driscoll

Joseph “Popsy” Driscoll, age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away in his care givers loving arms on Monday, June 8, 2020.

Born in Wilmington, DE on September 2, 1931, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Gliniak) Driscoll. Popsy loved playing the harmonica and organ, and was well known for his love of eating. He attended the Senior Program at Elwyn Institute, where he enjoyed coloring, painting, taking day trips and working on puzzles. Everyone that met Popsy immediately fell in love with him. He was a member of the Jesus House where he loved playing the piano.

In addition to his parents, Popsy was preceded in death by his first long time caregiver, Pastor Mercides Anthony, with whom he lived. He is survived by his care giver, with whom he lived, Sheila Wortham, and her family; 5 devoted friends who were like family, Isabelle Swarter, Angela Malmgren, Stacie Shriver and Bob and Jean Byers; and his guardian, Venee Purnell.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:15 am on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, in compliance with COVID-19 regulations. Interment will follow immediately after at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
