Katherine L. Dempsey

Mrs. Katherine L. Dempsey, age 81, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services of Pike Creek.
A native Delawarean, Katherine was born in Claymont on August 13, 1930, daughter of the late William E. Houston and Elizabeth T. Meredith Houston. She possessed a keen eye for detail and used that talent to make her career as a proofreader with William N. Cann, Inc. (Cann Printing) in Wilmington.
A devout Christian throughout her life, Katherine was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was a past president of the church’s Women’s Society.
Her beloved husband, Carson G. Dempsey, passed away in 1982. She is survived by her children, William E. Dempsey (Pauline) of New Castle, Carson G. Dempsey of Apex, NC, Nelson D. Dempsey of Townsend, and Katherine E. Muratore (Jeffrey) of Casper, WY; former daughter-in-law and caregiver, Sandra L. Dempsey of Wilmington; grandchildren, Wendelyn Kinna (Casey), Craig Dempsey, Christine Dempsey, Kerry Lovelace (Sean), Amy Muratore, Brienna Dempsey, Lindsey Muratore, and Robert Dempsey; and great grandchildren, Victoria, William, Savannah, Carter, Shane, and Riley.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at ManorCare Pike Creek, who became a caring and loving extended family to Katherine over the last four years.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE, 19720, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
