Katherine Mae (Andrews) “Kay” Fresconi
Katherine Mae (Andrews) “Kay” Fresconi, age 99 ½, of New Castle, DE died on Friday, 27 December 2024 at Cadia Nursing Home, Pike Creek, DE. Born in Sparta, Alleghany County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Claude Reeves and Nora Menta Sadler Andrews. Her parents were farmers in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Graduating high school shortly before the start of WWII, “Kay” visited her brother “Mack” who was stationed in Havre de Grace, MD. She decided to stay and became employed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in security and subsequently worked as a Senior Supervisor in the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone company.
While there she met her future husband, John Joseph Fresconi. Upon marriage, they made their home in Wilmington and New Castle, DE. She became a devoted wife, mother, and an excellent cook. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith at the age of 95.
She is survived by her 3 sons: John Michael Fresconi of New Castle, DE; Gary Mark Fresconi (Therese) of Malvern, PA; and Daniel Joseph (Therese) of Middletown, DE; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Schmidt, Mary Schmidt, Gabriel Mark Fresconi, Nicholas Daniel Fresconi, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fresconi was preceded in death by her brothers Varden Sadler, Woods McHenry “Mack” Andrews, Ernest Andrews, Harlan Andrews and sisters Betty Andrews Mitchell, Hazel Andrews Jones, Laura Andrews McMillan Gilliam.
Friends may call at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 North Dupont Parkway, Wilmington Manor, New Castle. DE on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 9 – 11 am. A service will follow immediately afterwards. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Parkway, New Castle.
