Kathleen A. “Kathy” Wolinski - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Kathleen A. “Kathy” Wolinski

May 15, 1966 - March 1, 2024

Kathleen A. “Kathy” Wolinski, age 57, of Newark, DE, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, March 1st, 2024.

Born in Wilmington, DE on May 15th, 1966, she was the daughter of late Eugene and Betty (Wright) Olenderski. Kathy made her career as an operations manager at Bank of America.

One of Kathy’s most admirable traits was how all in she was on her relationships. Growing up, she was lucky to be alongside her immediate and extended family on the farm, and spend time in Wildwood, NJ at the beach over 4th of July’s. Living amongst them gave her an incredibly close-knit family dynamic. She also had lifelong close friends from elementary and middle school.

During high school, she met her lifelong partner, and they became inseparable. Married in 1986, Kathy and Jim lived their best lives entertaining, going to events with friends, riding roller coasters at adventure parks, and growing their love of the beach.

After years as a married couple, they embarked on their biggest journey together, parenthood. Kathy adored her little blondies, and her and Jim put their full energy into being outstanding parents. There wasn’t a game, recital, conference or field trip missed; she even co-led a girl scout troop. She was sure to pass down the same family values as she adopted growing up. Kathy led a family that ate dinner together every night, shared life stories, and enjoyed each other’s company. With some arm twisting, she even became very fond of the beloved family dog.

Kathy and her family grew into beach life, starting by going a few times a summer, into becoming weekenders. There was no greater joy for her than being on the beach (especially Fenwick Island State Park), watching her husband surf fish and her children and dog play in the waves. As she got deeper into the beach community, she loved making breakfasts on the beach during fishing tournament mornings, and indulging in girls days with the ladies while away for tournament trips in the Outer Banks.

Kathy was also abundantly full of love, particularly for children. She was always the first one to hold a baby, have all the fixin’s for smores around a campfire or make fun events during her annual friend’s Christmas party. Additionally, Kathy was so enthusiastic and full of warmth, serving as everyone’s unpaid therapist with a smile. She got joy from making others happy, whether it was custom order breakfasts for everyone who slept over, or having a stash of nerf guns for when kiddos came to visit.

Kathy also learned to appreciate wildlife as she matured. From horses on the beach, to her turtle log, to admiring the plethora of birds like eagles, herrings, osprey, and more on the pond behind the house, it tickled her. She was the first one to scream as deer were present in a field on drives home from a sun-soaked day on the beach. Flowers also brought her joy, especially sunflowers growing tall in the back yard.

While she’s no longer physically on earth, her light and love still radiate through everyone she knew.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Tony Olenderski; her sister, Linda Iocono; and her beloved dogs, Saber and Stella. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; daughter, Ashley; son, Jimmy; and puppy, Zuzu.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 1 pm, following the visitation, at St. John the Baptist, East Main & North Chapel Streets, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy’s memory to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, Christiana Care Office of Philanthropy, 4000 Nexus Drive, Suite W3-300, Wilmington, DE 19803 or online by clicking here.
