Kelly J. Leithren, age 55, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family, on Friday, July 27, 2012.
Kelly was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 24, 1957. After receiving her associate’s degree, she went to work as a phlebotomist, and was employed with Lab Corp at the Peoples Plaza site, where she had worked for 20 years.
An avid gardener, Kelly was a member of the Master Gardener Club of Delaware, where she enjoyed spending time with others who shared her passion for gardening. She was a talented cook and delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Most important to Kelly was her beloved family. She relished her outings and get-togethers with them, especially at Christmastime. All who knew Kelly where aware that her love for her children was endless and that her world revolved around them. She was known to proudly say that “My children are my legacy”. Kelly will be remembered by all as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her mother, May Springer Nelson and father-in-law, James H. Leithren, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, David A. Leithren; son, David A. Leithren, Jr., of North East, MD; daughter, Ashley B. Leithren, of Chesapeake City, MD; sisters, Sandra Skelley, and her husband, David of Wilmington, DE, Winnie Sammons and her husband, Frank of Wilmington, DE, and Roberta Harrington, and her husband, William of Elkton, MD; brothers, Boyd Armstrong, and his wife, Cindy of Bear, DE; and John Faulkner and his wife, Diane of Elkton, MD; mother-in-law, Mary J. Leithren of Newark, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
