Mr. Kelmer H. Berry, Jr., known fondly as “Ted,” age 67, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012.
Born in Petoskey, MI, on September 5, 1945, Mr. Berry was the son of the late Kelmer H. Berry, Sr. and Ella Mae Dillon Berry. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. In civilian life, he made his career as the superintendent of the New Castle Hot Mix Company. Among his professional affiliations, he was a past president of the Delaware Asphalt Pavement Association.
Mr. Berry was a parishioner of Holy Spirit R.C. Church in New Castle. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and cheering for his favorite baseball team, the Cleveland Indians. In earlier years, he was an avid fisherman.
His devoted wife of 32 years, Barbara L. Carello Berry, passed away in 2001. He is survived by his sons, Christopher A. Berry and wife Michelle of Claymont, DE, and Andrew N. Berry and wife Stephanie of Newark; sister, Frances Hildebrandt of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Christopher A. Berry, Jr., Matthew Ryan Berry, Mackenzie Lynn Berry, Cooper N. Berry, and Samantha Lee Berry; nephew, Scott McClelland and wife Ginger; niece, Stacy Wolford and husband Tim; great nieces and nephews, Nathan, Jenna, Abby, Jacob, and Samantha; and former daughter-in-law, Maureen McLaughlin, to whom Mr. Berry remained very close and whom he loved as a daughter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, Garfield Park, New Castle, DE, 19720, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Spirit R.C. Church at the address above.
