Kenneth “Wayne” Johnson

June 16, 1946 - June 30, 2018


Kenneth “Wayne” Johnson, age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 30, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wilmington, DE on June 16, 1946, he was a son of Kathryn (Haggerty) and the late Ralph S. Johnson. Wayne proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England during that time. Following his service he worked in customer service for DuPont/ICI. After retirement, his passion was working with students in the Networks program for Christina School District.

Wayne enjoyed painting pictures, reading and spending time at Delaware Park. He spent his summers at Wildwood, NJ through his entire life. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and dear friend to many.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Claudia M. (Murray) Johnson; mother, Kathryn (Haggerty) Johnson; daughters, Janene K. Ebaugh (Eric) of Bear, DE and Shannon M. Dunn (Jonathan) of Smyrna, DE; brothers, Ralph Johnson (Sue) and Randall Johnson (Teresa); grandchildren, Delaney and Roman Ebaugh and Lachlan and Sebastian Dunn.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s name to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19716.

  • We are at our camp in Maine for the entire summer and I check DE Obituaries on-line every couple of weeks and today I was shocked to read of Wayne’s passing. I remember him from Maple Valley Swim Club days (35 years ago)–a really nice guy. Later I knew Claudia when we worked together in the Development Office at UD and Ralph as the result of our house being burglarized. All great people for whom I feel blessed in knowing. Claudia and Ralph and the rest of the family, please accept my sincere sympathy during these difficult days. Were I in DE I would have delivered my sympathy personally. John.
